Overview

An exciting new opportunity to be the first to stay in Brasenose College's newest and most modern building, with 30 single ensuite bedrooms and located in the heart of Oxford City Centre.

Completed in 2024, the eco-sustainable building is one of the newest Quads in Oxford and has won several awards including from Oxford Preservation Trust. It has a 'living roof', an eco-ground source heat pump and excellent insulation. Frewin Garden Build has interesting architectural details and is built on a site of historic interest; it also has it's own small central courtyard garden.

Check-in and check-out (key collection and return) is to be carried out at the Porters Lodge on Brasenose College's Main Site (approx. 6 minute walk).

Access to Frewin Garden Build is via the Frewin Annexe, located via a wrought iron gate on New Inn Hall Street.

Check in: 14:00 (2:00pm) - 22:00 (10:00pm) (arrivals may be allowed outside this window if your travel plans can't be adjusted however this is subject to availability)

Check out: 07:00 (7:00am) - 10:00 (10:00am)

History

This new building is built on the site of Oxford's lost college - St Mary's. This college was established in 1435 but fell into disrepair just 100 years later, it's demise was linked to the Dissolution of the Monasteries during King Henry VIII's reign.

Further details about the Award and archaelogical findings is here

There are other buildings within Frewin Campus including Frewin Hall, a Grade 1 Tudor mansion house, currently being internally renovated, this work is being carried out during 09.00-17.00 and will have very minimal impact.

Food & beverage

There is no catering on site, however the building is in the centre of Oxford so is surrounded by many eateries, including cafes, restaurants, Cornmarket Street, The Covered Market etc

If you book a signifant number (10 or above) of rooms together in a group booking, additional catering can be requested.

Tea and coffee facilities are provided in each bedroom.

A lower ground floor social space/ common room is also available to use during the stay.

Grounds & Gardens

The building has its own terrace/ courtyard garden and this has seasonal flowers and borders.

A great location right in the centre and not too noisy (apart from the building work nearby). The rooms are relatively small with single beds, but they have an en suite, and if you are booking university halls this is what you expect for the price. I would have liked an option to have food like some of the other halls offer, but there were a lot of options within a stones throw of the place, and as a small college its probably not practical. I would definitely book again.
