History

The Château was built in 1849 by Sir John Hay Williams, Baronet of Bodelwyddan as a gift for his wife Lady Sarah. The Château was originally built as a dower house, beautifully positioned on the water. However, inspiration and artistic imagination influenced the design from the couple’s travels in the Loire region of France, where they were particularly enamoured with the architectural style favoured in the region during the reign of Francois I (1515 – 1547).

The Château tells an exciting history both inside and out, following Lady Sarah’s dream that everything would be perfect and no detail overlooked. The magnificent interiors were chosen by her own hand, and to honour her exquisite taste and connect the French-style Château to its newly formed Welsh roots, the house was christened “Rhianfa” (put forward by the local vicar), which means ladies abode.

Over the recent years, the hotel owners have taken great care to preserve the treasured French-style architecture through gentle restoration to ensure the historic charm and unique character of Château Rhianfa will last forever like any true fairy tale should. Over time the charming character, inspired by an enchanting love story, lives on for guests to admire today.

Food & beverage

Guests can treat themselves to an indulgent plate of food served in the enchanting flair of the magical surroundings at Château Rhianfa’s restaurant in Anglesey.

At Château Rhianfa every meal time should be memorable, exquisitely indulgent and leave guests wanting to relive it time and time again. Grounds & Gardens

Château Rhianfa is a great base to unwind, relax and recharge in a fantastic location that’s great for exploring.Take a stroll around the remnant Victorian Gardens, down to a small Private Beach with magnificent views of the Menai Straits and the Mountains.

The landscaped gardens have incorporated both old and new in a delightful and unusual garden design which, whilst unique and certainly unusual for the area, blends beautifully with the surrounding landscape, and was cleverly designed to make the most of the available land and situation.

Guests will find the Aviary which survived from the original garden dating back to1860. This was designed to mirror the chateau inspired house.
