Overview

Shibden Mill Inn nestles in the Shibden Valley, near Halifax, West Yorkshire. The 17th Century Inn is steeped in history and has been sympathetically renovated to retain its original charm and character.

The individually decorated bedrooms have the warmth, style and quality you would expect from a country inn and provide a relaxing atmosphere in which to unwind. Rooms are available and standard, superior and Bower suite.

Shibden Mill is ideally positioned for visitors to make the most of what the area has to offer. There's something for everyone, from country walks to cycle routes; shopping in the city centre and championship golf courses. There's the Bronte Country, the Dales and Calderdale Way to explore, or maybe you'd prefer to visit the National Media Museum, the theatre or the Shibden Hall (with its beautiful park), all just a few minutes away from the Inn.

History

The first mention by name of the ancient manorial water corn mill that used to stand here is to be found in the Court Rolls of the town of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, in the second year of King Edward II (1308). The mill is said to have once belonged to William of Adderigate (now Addersgate) and Simon of the Dene, at the rent of 53 shillings and 4 pennies per annum.

In 1845 Messers Thomas and George Bottomley used the building as a worsted spinning mill. Thomas Bottomley died in 1854 and his brother George became the sole lessee. The rent paid for the premises at this time was £163 and 14 shillings per year. In 1859 the mill burnt down and George Bottomley died six years later in 1865. On August 5th 1890 the mill was sold to Halifax brewers Websters and became a public house. The first landlord was a Mr E.C. Sutherland Walker.

Food & beverage

Guests can choose to eat in the bar by the open log fire, outside on the stone-flagged heated patio, or inside the Grill Room restaurant (2 AA Rossette) with its original oak beams.

The extensive menu ranges from traditional to modern and the Tuesday Treat Club is held every Tuesday, with tables available from 6.00pm to 9.00pm. Enjoy a 2-course meal with a bottle of house wine for just £25 for 2 people.
