Overview

In the Tuscan dialect “Canto” means “in the corner” and it is also refers to the famous poems of Dante.

B&B Al Canto is in a quiet neighbourhood in the southern part of Florence. It is only a three-minute walk from the Arno River Park; a five-minute walk to the metropolitan rail line taking into the heart of the city in minutes; three minutes from the bus stop, which will take you into the centre of the city in 15 minutes; and only 5 minutes from the south access to the motorway.

There are five large rooms with en-suite bathrooms, TV and air conditioning. Four of the rooms look on to the central courtyard and garden. There are also a couple of studios with fully equipped kitchens for longer stays. Free parking is available nearby.

Your hosts are Franco, an architect, and Linda, a Canadian art historian.

She will be happy to assist you in organizing your visit to Florence and other sites in Italy as she is familiar with many of the secret wonders of the city and the art treasures that Italy has to offer.

History

It is said that Dante actually visited this house, whose origins date back to at least the 12th Century and probably even to the dawn of the Middle Ages.

The building was lovingly restored in 2010 respecting both local tradition and the unique environment. Guests will be able to see glimpses from the past, including a door probably dating from 1200.

Food & beverage

A continental breakfast is included in the price and served from 7.00am to 9:30am in the large dining room: yoghurt, cold cuts, cheese are also available, and we try to accomodate any individual requests.

It is possible to make tea and coffee in the rooms.

There are several excellent restaurants within walking distance, as well as 2 cafés.

Grounds & Gardens

There is a small garden and courtyard, perfect for children to play in and for adults to relax after a day of museums. It is possible to have breakfast outside when weather permits.

Al Canto is a 5 minutes' walk from the suggestive Arno River park, as well as from the Pazzagli Sculpture park.

The owner and her son could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable. We arrived late but was greeted with wine and full details on buses to catch, where to eat and what to see, plus had full use of kitchen to make drinks. Rooms were good size and very clean and well equipped. Garden was great for sitting in the evening before dinner at local resturants. Would recommend this B&B.

We had an excellent experience at Al Canto di Franco Madella, Firenze!! the location was perfect...an easy walk to the bus and train and in fact a great walk along the Arno right into Florence. The accommodations were great and our hostess spoke English which was terrific. HIGHLY recommend this location for anyone visiting Florence and surrounding region. We loved the "charm."

Linda is an outstanding host who went above and beyond to ensure we had an excellent visit. If she offers to tour you at the Uffizzi - take her up on her offer. Worth every dollar you spend. I will definitely return and definitely recommend.
