Overview

An exciting new opportunity to be the first to stay in Brasenose College's newest building projects:

Frewin Garden Building has 30 single ensuite bedrooms and located in the heart of Oxford City Centre.

The other is a complete refurbishment of a Grade 1 Tudor mansion house, called Frewin Hall. This has 13 newly created Premium Ensuite bedrooms.

Frewin Garden build was completed in 2024, the eco-sustainable building is one of the newest Quads in Oxford and has won several awards including from Oxford Preservation Trust. It has a 'living roof', an eco-ground source heat pump and excellent insulation. It has interesting architectural details and is built on a site of historic interest; it also has it's own small central courtyard garden.

Check-in and check-out (key collection and return) is to be carried out at the Porters Lodge on Brasenose College's Main Site (approx. 6 minute walk).

Entrance to Frewin Campus is via fob access using the large wrought iron gate (power assisted) on St Michael's Street, next door to The Oxford Union.

History

The campus is situated on the site of Oxford's lost college - St Mary's. This prior college was established in 1435 but fell into disrepair just 100 years later; it's demise was linked to the Dissolution of the Monasteries during King Henry VIII's reign.

There are other many other buildings of various ages within the campus, such as Frewin Hall, a Grade 1 Tudor mansion house, which has had a full restoration and refurbishment programme completed in September 2025; several Georgian buildings, newer accommodation dating to the 1960's and most recently the Frewin garden Building, a contemporary Eco-build with a living roof and ground-source heating; this was completed in 2024.

Food & beverage

There is no catering on site, however the building is in the centre of Oxford so is surrounded by many eateries, including cafes, restaurants, Cornmarket Street, The Covered Market etc

If you book a signifant number (10 or above) of rooms together in a group booking, additional catering can be requested.

Tea and coffee facilities are provided in each bedroom.

A lower ground floor social space/ common room is also available to use during the stay.

Grounds & Gardens

The campus has various green spaces including a new Quad in front of Frewin Hall, a  terrace/ courtyard garden by Frewin Garden building and other areas including seasonal flower beds, shrubs, trees and borders, making a peaceful and attractive outside environment.

A great location right in the centre and not too noisy (apart from the building work nearby). The rooms are relatively small with single beds, but they have an en suite, and if you are booking university halls this is what you expect for the price. I would have liked an option to have food like some of the other halls offer, but there were a lot of options within a stones throw of the place, and as a small college its probably not practical. I would definitely book again.

BryonyS

A wonderful experience overall, clean fresh room. No blowdryer in the rooms, will bring with me next time. Very close to everything, would stay again.

Anon

MarcF
