History

Ely in Cambridgeshire is ideal for summer walks and has a beautiful waterside for strolls discovering the local countryside. In summer visitors can enjoy a boat trip along the River Great Ouse. Visitors can embark on Ely's Eel Trail! This walk invites walkers to discover the architecture and history of this small city. Ely's marshland and waters once contained many eels which were part of the local staple diet. Visitors can still sample smoked eel at Ely's award-winning Farmers Market. The Eel Trail highlights around 18 local attractions starting at Oliver Cromwell's House and Ely's tourism information centre where the leaflet can be picked up. Other highlights of the trail include The Bishop's Palace, Ely Porta, Ely Museum, the antique centre by the Waterside and of course the world-famous Ely Cathedral.

Food & beverage

Daniel Perjesi is Head Chef at Poets House Hotel. Daniel oversees both 'The Dining Room' with 40 covers which is open daily for dinner (lunch at weekends) and he also oversees the lounge which offers lunch and afternoon tea daily. The dinner menu is priced £20 for one course, £25 for two courses and £30 for three courses.

Grounds & Gardens

Ely Cathedral dominates the skyline and sits just opposite Poets House Hotel. The Cathedral has been the setting for many major productions and most recently appeared in the Netflix drama The Crown. Ely is no stranger to film stars and over the years these have included Cate Blanchette, Natalie Portman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Eddie Redmayne and others.
