History

Westminster College buildings were built in 1899 by the Presbyterian Church of England, to replace their existing one in London. The move to Cambridge was largely at the urging of two remarkable twin sisters, Margaret and Agnes Smith, whose portraits now hang in the main dining hall. The college is a Grade II listed building. Almost all the original work survives, with modern facilities sympathetically introduced.

The College is today a Theological College affiliated with Cambridge University with some 50 students; most in training for ministry in the Church.

This is now our favourite place to stay in Cambridge. It has architectural interest and the kitchenette means you can bring a picnic without needing to go out to over-priced restaurants. The breakfasts are superb, particularly the bacon and sausages sourced from local butchers. Location is great, a ten minute walk to the centre of town, virtually next door to Kettle's Yard. Car access is easy from the M11, meaning you never have to drive anywhere near the centre of town.

Great breakfast, with a good variety of options. I like that the hot breakfast is buffet style so you can right-size your own portion. Hot breakfast was very tasty. Good range of teas and coffees in the room.

The reception staff were particularly welcoming, friendly and helpful. Also the breakfast provided was while limited in selection, very yummy and filling.
