History

Wycliffe Hall was founded in 1877 as a place to train evangelical clergy in the Church of England, and has since then expanded to take any student of theology.  It started in the main part of the current building (54 Banbury Road), expanding to 52 Banbury Road, which was originally a convent, in 1883.  The Chapel was added to connect the two houses in 1896 and is noted for its architecture and interior panelling.  Other rooms have been added over time, including a dining room (now lecture room) in the style of a chapel in 1910.

Food & beverage

A Continental breakfast is served in the hall each morning, including a selection of cereals, toast, yoghurt, cold meat, cheese, pastries, fruit juice and hot drinks.  Please advise at the time of booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

During the term, breakfast is served at:

  • 7:15 - 8:45am Monday to Friday
  • 8:30 - 9:30am Saturday to Sunday

In vacations, breakfast is served at:

8.00am - 9.00 am on every day.

Wycliffe Hall has a private garden, complete with garden furniture in the summer months. There is a children's play area, which guests with small children are welcome to use.

The University Parks are a short stroll from Wycliffe Hall, with the North entrance located just across the road from the Hall.

The room was basic but adequate as expected. The desk, swivel chair and kettle were appreciated. It was a cold winter night, but radiator turned off during the night. Relieved I'd brought my down duvet to keep me warm. The shower rooms & toilet were basic. Kitchenette was useful. Breakfast wasn't continental. Staff were very helpful & friendly. Onsite parking was huge asset. A good safe, clean, old fashioned B&B for a short stay.

Location was great, a few hundred meters from HB Allen centre, the team was very nice.Shared bathroom was OKish but clean. Bedroom was clean with all essentials but a bit smelly. Wifi was very unstable to the point of being unusable for webex and MS Teams. Overall a good experience.

We loved our stay. Wycliff Hall's location is very convenient location has ample of parking and nice overall atmosphere. One thing I d love to see next time is that all food served at breakfast is clearly labeled for people with dietary requirements.

Wycliffe Hall represents excellent value for money in a largely expensive Oxford accommodation scene. Our room was warm and very clean, the breakfast good, and the staff approachable. Wycliffe Hall is fairly and honestly priced and in a good location.

Had a brilliant stay in authentic Oxford accommodation! It's close to town, has great facilities and was great value for a weekend away. I would definitely stay again.
