Overview

Brasenose College is situated in the centre of the city, near a wide range of shops, restaurants, bars, parks, museums, theatres, and the river. The College was established in 1509. Its historic structures have been updated to meet the needs of the twenty-first century. Indulge yourself in the atmosphere of Oxford College.

The college quarters, which are used by students throughout the term time, are comfortable, yet functional. The quarters, unlike a hotel, are packed with the glory and beauty of over 500 years of history. If you're looking for something different in the heart of Oxford, Brasenose is the place to be.

There are single or twin ensuite rooms available, as well as free Wi-Fi, toiletries, linen, towels, and tea and coffee making facilities. Due to the age of the buildings, access for those with mobility problems is restricted, but please specify some special requirements when booking and Brasenose College will do its best to accommodate your request. Please note that cots are not provided.

Brasenose is a working college, therefore, Hen or Stag Parties are not allowed to maintain the proper College environment.

History

The Royal Charter established a College to be called ‘The King's Hall and College of Brasenose’.  The founders of Brasenose College were Sir Richard Sutton, a lawyer, and William Smyth, Bishop of Lincoln. Both were from the north-west and the College has retained strong links with Cheshire and Lancashire throughout its history.

The greatest change in the history of Brasenose took place in 1971 when the College decided to alter the statutes to allow the admission of women. The first woman lecturer was appointed in 1972 and the first women undergraduates arrived in 1974.

Food & beverage

Accommodation is sold on a room only basis.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from nearby and private dining is offered at the College for groups - subject to availability. Minimum numbers apply. Please contact the Events team directly for further private dining details.

We had a fabulous time and the Porters and Scouts were very helpful and smiling. The room was great, with a fridge and microwave. The only challenge we had was the low height of the beds due to our creaking knees and general decrepitude. It was a privilege to stay in college and we would definitely come back again. Even now I smile when I think of our visit to my favourite place on earth, an Oxford College. Thank you for making us welcome

As a member of Brasenose College, I was delighted to have been allocated a room in the Old Quad. The room was comfortable, the beds were good and happily the heating worked as the outside temperatures were a little cool. The presence of mousetraps in the room spooked my wife somewhat, but luckily there were no sightings! All in all, a very pleasant stay and we look forward to the next time.

Excellent room with clean bathroom and ample wardrobe space for clothes etc. Room conveniently near the main gate, and the college was just a few minutes walk from town centre attractions. Would certainly recommend Brasenose, and as I generally go to Oxford every year for a short visit, would consider staying at this college again.

JohnM

It was such a pleasant stay. Porters were most helpful and friendly. And the setting superb. Rooms were basic but perfectly fine. Beds were very comfortable after a days’ exploring in the city.

WendyP

Very clean room with (almost) everything needed for a quick stay. Would have loved a mini fridge. Wonderful views and the Porters were EXCELLENT! Would stay again. X

SarahF

A fairly basic room, but clean and relatedly comfortable, in really lovely surroundings. The shower was excellent! It was fine for an overnight stay.

TimK

Really nice rooms, v comfortable and well kitted out, lovely view over front quad

ChrisT

Very comfortable stay in a traditional set of rooms, quiet and restful.
