Overview

Founded in 1517, Corpus Christi College is a close-knit and vibrant Oxford College, committed to academic excellence. Its ancient buildings are some of the most beautiful in Oxford and it enjoys an unrivalled position within the heart of the city. Tucked away from the hustle and noise of the City’s main streets, the College overlooks Christ Church Meadow and the Thames.

There is easy access to other Colleges and University facilities such as libraries and museums, while the city shops and famous covered market are a short walk away. The College boasts direct access to the open spaces, riverside paths and tree-lined walks of the meadows. Architecturally, it successfully blends the very old with the very new, as illustrated by 2012 built MBI al Jaber Building with its spacious auditorium and delightful roof terrace.

2015 saw The President and Scholars of Corpus attend the opening of the now completely refurbished Jackson and Oldham buildings. The result is 61 stunning rooms of which 39 are ensuite. All rooms are provided with towels, toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities.

History

When he founded Corpus in March 1517, Richard Fox, then Bishop of Winchester - one of the leading statesmen in the reigns of Henry VII and Henry VIII – noted in the Statutes that it should be like a beehive: full of industrious activity and producing much sweetness.  Its buildings date from many periods and have many striking features. Notable among these is the ingenious and richly embellished sundial that is the centrepiece of the College's paved front quadrangle. Then there are the magnificent panelled Hall, with its original hammer-beam roof, the Old Library described by Erasmus as one of the wonders of the world, and the stately Fellows' Building of 1706 which looks out on to magnificent views of the garden, the Cathedral and the meadows beyond.

My brother and I stayed at CCC and had a very pleasant stay. Lodging in the College greatly added to our Oxford experience. Our rooms were well furnished, properly presented, and very clean. If you are visiting Oxford, I thoroughly recommend booking to stay at Corpus Christi via University Rooms.

The College was most welcoming. The location was perfect for our conference. I appreciate that student rooms are not a 5 start hotel. The Wifi connection worked but was not easy to get working.
