Overview

Green Templeton College offers the opportunity for a unique stay close to the historic Radcliffe Observatory in one of two onsite guest suites, or alternatively in 1 and 2 bedroom apartments at Rewley Abbey court, which is convienently located a short walk from Oxford Train Station.  This is a great option for alumni looking to revisit College as well as an opportunity for new visitors to soak up the unique atmosphere of the Oxford Colleges.

History

Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, was established in its current form in October 2008 through the merger of Green and Templeton Colleges.

From its foundation, its dynamism has come from being a meeting point of the practitioner, professional and academic worlds. It is above all an active and engaged intellectual approach rather than a purely reflective one.

Green College, founded in 1979 on the current college site with support from Dr Cecil Green of Texas Instruments, pioneered the work of medical and applied social science postgraduate students. The first Warden of Green College was Sir Richard Doll (1912–2005) who, in 1950, published the scientific paper demonstrating the clear link between smoking and cancer.

Templeton College’s origins go back to 1965 with the foundation of the Oxford Centre for Management Studies based on the edge of the city. Templeton College was inaugurated in 1984 following support from Sir John Templeton (1912–2008). It established business and management education at Oxford and since its advent has brought together global leaders from diverse fields.

The eighteenth-century Radcliffe Observatory dominates the three-acre college site. The building functioned as an observatory from 1773 until 1934.

I stayed just for one night but could easily have settled there for much longer! This is a proper "suite" - a large room with both a desk area and a table and chairs. There is ample storage for clothes, and a small kitchenette with breakfast basics. I took my breakfast bowl into the garden in the early morning - what could be nicer?! Lots of thoughtful touches (even baby cutlery in the kitchen drawer). College staff were warmly welcoming.

The porters were very friendly and helpful. The room was spatious and clean. The bed was good. It was nice to have a kitchenette with some food and a cafetière. There might have been a bit more variation for breakfast and some coffee to do in the cafetière.

Really comfortable, clean, spacious, spotless, warm, lovely environment, close to many amenities, kind welcoming porter. Poor sleepers might ask for a room further from the street kebab van, which got a bit noisy. But overall excellent and will recommend.

Brilliant mini ensuite apartment with nice furniture, very clean and bright. Excellent customer service and location. My stay at Green Templeton was better than many hotels on the high street. I would definitely go back and heartily recommend it!

Wonderful stay. I am an alumna of this college and I felt very privileged to be able to stay here for a conference next door at the Mathematical Institute

MARIONH

As always, a very warm and friendly welcome from the GTC Team, great room service and wonderful facilities. Look forward to returning soon.

Lovely place, didn't have a tv so 4* for facilities but that didn't bother us. The college has a peaceful garden area we made use of yoo
