History

Lady Margaret Hall was founded in 1878, the first of the Colleges for women at Oxford, and named after Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII and patroness of learning. In 1978 it became co-educational. It is proud both of its long tradition of academic excellence in women's education, and of its success since 1978 as a College open equally to women and men. It provides an outstanding, distinctive education for approximately 600 students, and its Fellows undertake research of international importance in Science, the Humanities, Social Science, and Medicine.

The College buildings date from a variety of periods between the mid-Victorian and the early 1970s, and include work by major architects such as Basil Champneys, Sir Reginald Blomfield, Giles Gilbert Scott, and Raymond Erith.

Food & beverage

The rates include a cooked breakfast which is served in the wood-panelled college Dining Hall or the Monson Room.

Vending machines are available, and Lady Margaret Hall is a short walk away from the Jericho area which has many restaurants, cafes, cocktail bars and pubs.

Grounds & Gardens

Lady Margaret Hall has 12 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens stretching down to the River Cherwell.

There are plenty of benches available so guests can relax and enjoy Lady Margaret Hall's quiet and pleasant grounds or saunter down to the river and try their hand at punting. Croquet and tennis are also available.

Enjoyed my stay at LMH. Porter was very helpful, the grounds are lovely, and the room was clean and cozy. One thing that could improve the room would be an extra blanket for the bed, as the quilt (comforter) given was adequate but only just. Danielle (Events Assistant) was extremely helpful by booking an LMH room for us for a conference social function, which I really appreciated. Overall I had an excellent stay at LMH and I'd certainly consider staying there again.

The highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the staff, who were universally cheerful, polite, helpful and thoroughly professional. The few minor issues, (eg our room had only one bed made up) were quickly and seamlessly sorted by the porter on duty. Advice on reliable local taxis was provided and ordered for us. The breakfast was not at all what I expected in student halls - it was worthy of a smart London club!

We had no idea what to expect of student accommodation, and were most impressed by everything; the location, the rooms, the wonderful grounds, the helpful and friendly service and the bounteous breakfasts. We could not have chosen better

We were very happy. Rooms much nicer than we expected. Food all round delicious and staff so helpful. Thank you Danielle for organising a really happy family weekend.
