History

The fifth oldest College of Cambridge University, Trinity Hall was founded by Bishop William Bateman of Norwich in 1350. This stunning venue holds many architectural treasures and historical artefacts dating back to Medieval times.

Nestled between Clare and Trinity Colleges, Trinity Hall lies beside the River Cam in the centre of Cambridge. With its gardens, architecture and riverside position, Henry James said of it, “If I were called upon to mention the prettiest corner of the world, I should draw a thoughtful sigh and point the way to the gardens of Trinity Hall.”

In the early days of Oxford & Cambridge Universities, the term college only referred to the group of students who lived within a Hall. Later on, it became fashionable to adopt the name College instead of Hall. However, by the time this became fashionable Henry VIII had created his own Trinity College next door leaving Trinity Hall no option but to remain as Trinity Hall.

I had the best few days - writing hard but also having a wonderful trip down memory lane staying in Trinity Hall. The room was perfectly equipped with a great view over the Backs. The bed was comfortable. My only complaint was that the pillows were too hard for me. But I should have brought my own. The shower/toilet facilities were more than adequate in spite of being shared. The kitchenette was useful for storing provisions, the only slight pain being no cutlery/crockery. Fabulous!

Amazing stay at Trinity Hall it truly was an honor! Will def. return in the future! Everything is fully explained when checking in, so no surprises. Remember: it's an actual dorm that someone will use during the semester. Location cannot be beat, it's o close to everything around town! It truly was an honor to stay at Trinity Hall!

I booked for my friend and she was extremely happy with everything. The location was great. The room was rather cramped but it had a river view and was very quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. The online booking system was simple to use, and the pre-arrival information was clear and detailed.

The room is simple, but with everything necessary. Everything was clean, the sink in the room was a big plus. I had a nice stay, the location is very good, close to the centre, and on a silent street.

Great stay. Trinity Hall is an absolute gem. Quiet but right in the heart of Cambridge. Porters were incredibly helpful and friendly. I've stayed in a couple of the colleges and this was my favourite.

Kind and helpful porters. The room was super clean. The mattress was a little too hard and worn. We had a wonderful stay. Many thanks!

Comfortable room with a river view, good water pressure in the shower. Friendly and helpful porters.
